ballycross apple farm

The orchards at Ballycross Apple Farm are a delight, but so too are the farm buildings with their well manicured courtyard, farm shop and café. After walking the fields, pick up a bushel of apples that include a variety of strains in their farm shop. In the autumn, this place really comes into its own with the pumpkin patches bursting into a blaze of colour!

Wild and native

This award-winning seafood restaurant situated in Rosslare is a fusion of seafood dressed with foraged coastal herbs and wild salads. A strong focus here too on local suppliers and a fine wine menu to boot, it’s a little remote but well worth the drive. Just be sure to book ahead as in the summer months it is popular with locals and books up fast.

Kehoes of Kilmore

Kehoe’s Pub is the village’s unofficial maritime museum with some really unique decor dragged up from the seabed over the past 80 years or so. Here, you'll find a great seafood menu and when you realise the people at the table next to you are local fishermen, you know it'll be good.

The Little Saltee Chipper

Across Ireland, there are many claims to great chips or fresh fish. However, the award-winning Little Saltee regularly tops nationwide polls as the best chipper in Ireland. With the harbour literally across the street, you simply can't get fresher fish. Be sure to order a Wexford rissole while you’re here. This regional delicacy is a firm favourite. Often described as a hug in breadcrumbs, it is made with mashed potato, a secret blend of herbs and deep-fried. Their homemade tartare sauce is worth a mention too. Yum. Make like a local, get it to take away and tuck in while sitting on the harbour wall. Just watch out for thieving seagulls!

Meylers Millhouse bar & restaurant

It’s not often that you find a bar that has its own windmill! Built in the mid 1800s, this windmill has been restored in recent years and to take a look inside, just ask for the key at the bar. While you’re here, be sure to get something to eat. Meyler’s unusual menu sees a blend of traditional pub faire alongside Thai street food, all made with locally-sourced ingredients. Situated halfway along the old route between Our Lady's Island and Kilmore Quay, it’s an Insta-worthy stop.
